Twitter The Movie

Monday 19.07.10 Posted in things we like by Steve

Even though we at Nerv genuinely look forward to a movie all about face book, (we like this,) we are way more excited about the upcoming Twitter Movie, rather surprisingly not starring Ashton Kutcher subliminally tweeting his way through a series of product placement adventures and big brand endorsements. It's actually about the rise of the Twitter bird and how it went from forgotten war hero, junkie, musician, artist and prostitute to being the world wide icon for tweeting around the world. The movies out next summer. Probably...

The poster was designed and conceived right here at nerv by our very own animator Steve

They think it's all over...

Tuesday 13.07.10 Posted in things we like by Robin

...Well it is, isn't it?!

As the Spanish continue to party all week long, the rest of us go back to our normal lives without football on the telly box every evening and afternoon.

But one of the coolest things we saw during this world cup was created by a chap called Hirofumi Kiyonaga... and now the World Cup is finally over, so is his brand wars representation of the World Cup.

Quite intriguing really in its simplicity.

The Art of Analog Computing

Monday 12.07.10 Posted in news, things we like by Steve

Here at nerv; like most design and web based agencies, we live and breathe in front of computers, constantly bathing in the soft glow of monitors and blissfully humming in tune with the sinister drone of computer processors. Though this reliance on technology and every day desktop activity can be taken for granted. We stumbled across this video which demonstrates just how computer functions and tasks would work with real life objects and people.

Beautiful. Haunting. Limbo.

Tuesday 06.07.10 Posted in creative, things we like by Steve

It’s fairly safe to say that the games industry is a crowded arena. Many of today’s most popular blockbuster games involve huge teams, months and years to create with budgets that reach into the millions. A continual flow of new titles ensures that the vast numbers of gaming fans out there get their fix. Personally, I can’t help feeling that whilst some remarkable products are created, that a lot of new games are old ideas, repackaged and resold. That’s the reason why I wouldn’t consider myself a serious gamer, because nothing seems to really grab my attention.

That was until I spotted a post on Twitter singing praise for a soon to be realised indie game, Limbo. Created as the first production by Playdead studio, based in Copenhagen, these guys appear to have produced what I consider to be a masterpiece. The art direction on this looks breathtaking; having abandoned photo-realism in favour of a minimal, bleak and desolate landscape, where less is clearly more.

I’m sure not everybody will agree with me here, but just from this simple demo this looks like the best game I’ve seen in a long, long time. What I think is really special about this game is the fact that it’s an independent studio that have had the guts to try something really different, and I think this will pay off in a big way.

Graffiti 3D - Ever feel green with envy?

Wednesday 30.06.10 Posted in creative, things we like by Ringo

Graffiti Analysis is a project by Evan Roth that uses open source custom software designed for graffiti writers to create visualizations and filtered animation scenes of the motion involved in the creation of a tag. Motion data is recorded, analyzed and archived and once you have this data you can do pretty much anything with it.

We have been aware of this project for a little while now, and have even experimented with our own graffitti projects using Laser Tag; which incorporates the same core Graffiti Markup Language (GML) files that Graffiti Analysis uses.

However, when you see someone use artistic flare, incredible idea progression and analysis, multiple technologies and run with it like this.........what can we say, we are just jealous we didn't come up with it.

Super McCann: Online Game

Tuesday 29.06.10 Posted in new projects, creative by Nerv

McCann came to us with the brief of creating a playable online viral game where potential clients and users could literally run, jump and fly their way through the agency's portfolio.

Below is the Youtube video showing-off some of our handy work as well as a few glimpses of the Making-Of, which shows some tiny behind the scenes clips of our in- house coding and animation team bringing the whole experience to life.

The digital journey is brought to life with celebrity cameos such as Amy Winehouse, Banksy and the Shredded Wheat grannies; all animated frame by frame by our sickeningly talented team of Animators and Flash coders.

In honour of the World Cup starting today, I thought I'd drop a quick blog in about the evolution of footy games on computers.
